When pain persists: Choosing to live, not just cope

You might find yourself cancelling plans again, or hesitating before reaching for something on a high shelf. There are days when the persistent ache seems to dictate every decision.

The CBD Brand that Actually Does What It Says

CBD is having a moment and CBD brands are everywhere right now. But with so many options, it can be tough to know what to look for – and which brands actually follow through on their claims.

That’s where CBDistillery sets itself apart. For the past decade, all of CBDistillery's products have been made with non-GMO, US-grown industrial hemp and with 100% clean ingredients – no corn syrup or artificial colors, flavors, preservatives or sweeteners.

They frequently introduce new and innovative products formulated to meet a variety of wellness needs and customer preferences. And every single batch of CBDistillery’s gummies, oil tinctures, topicals and softgels are tested by an independent, accredited lab to make sure what’s in the package matches what’s on the label.

Right now, CBDistillery is offering our readers a special deal: save 50% on orders of $75 or more with code NEWS50!

Three truths about chronic pain acceptance

1. Acceptance is not resignation — True acceptance of chronic pain means shifting your focus from trying to eliminate the pain, which is often out of your control, to living a meaningful life alongside it. It is not about liking the pain or pretending it doesn't exist, but rather acknowledging its presence without letting it completely define your actions or identity. This allows you to re-engage with activities you value. When you notice yourself fighting against the pain, gently redirect your attention to what you can do today.

2. Psychological flexibility matters — Our natural instinct is often to avoid pain, but this can inadvertently shrink our lives. Chronic pain acceptance involves psychological flexibility, which is the ability to adapt to changing circumstances and commit to actions that align with your values, even in the presence of discomfort. It means choosing to participate in a family dinner despite some discomfort, rather than withdrawing entirely. Consider one small activity you've been avoiding due to pain, and plan to engage with it mindfully.

3. Valued living is the goal — The core idea isn't to reduce pain intensity, but to increase your participation in activities that bring you a sense of purpose and joy. This might mean adjusting how you do things, perhaps taking breaks or modifying tasks, rather than abandoning them altogether. For instance, if gardening is important to you, acceptance means finding new ways to garden that accommodate your body's current limits. Reflect on a value that feels neglected because of pain, and imagine one small way to honor it.

The idea to remember

Chronic pain acceptance is a key component of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), focusing on living a valued life despite pain.

Try this before next week

This week, when you notice a moment of pain, pause. Instead of immediately wishing it away, simply acknowledge its presence without judgment. Then, choose one small action that aligns with a personal value you hold, and take it, regardless of the pain.
